Internal newsletters and Intranet sites are an easy and effective way of getting the message across to others that you work with.

Donations - Ensure your first donation is a good one! Ask your most generous friend first, as once people see a large amount at the top of the form, they tend to follow suit and be equally generous.

Nearly all of your friends and neighbours will appreciate you doing something for them - but don't do it for free! Offer to baby sit, dog walk or car wash. If they won’t trust you with their valuables , ask them for a donation to make you go away!

Email all your colleagues and friends and tell them what you are doing. This is a great way of getting in touch with old friends and also informing them of your Just Giving web site.

Your company and its suppliers will want to appear generous with their sponsorship - Don’t be afraid to ask for support!

Raffles are always a good way to raise money, as are the charities’ "Treasure Maps" - Please contact us for one.

External sources...Get family members, friends and colleagues to collect sponsorship for you. The more help you get, the less you have to worry about.

Start as early as possible! Once the bulk of the money is pledged you can start to relax. Contact as many people as you can in as many different social situations as possible. It’s amazing how many people you actually know.

Encourage your friends to give up something for the day - lunch, smoking, chocolate, coffee, swearing - and put the money they have saved into your fund.

Ask your employer for help. Some companies will match the amount you raise, give you a donation or sponsor you o wear the company logo or uniform. If you are really silly do the event in fancy dress.

Refill sweet tubes - this idea is growing in popularity with the increase in sweet companies selling reusable containers with sweets. For example, Smartie tubes are ideal for holding 20p/£1 coins. Encourage group members and friends to collect in these.

Car boot sale - Feng Shui your home and sell your clutter. LPs are not going to make a comeback - sell them!

Hold a party and charge your friends a nominal entry fee. What about an all night session of "Friends" or a Christmas themed barbeque on a Sunday afternoon.

Uniform Free Day! Ask your company if you can hold a small fund raising event such as a dress down day, a bacon roll morning or lunchtime event.

Keep Going! Fundraising is not easy, and can be quite difficult to get started but please do not give up.
