A COLLABORATIVE DVD PROJECT - "LIVING WITH KIDNEY DISEASE" ‘Living with Kidney disease’ is a unique health awareness DVD project that aims to support anyone who has been told by their doctor that they have some level of kidney damage. The first module in this series is for those individuals who have been newly diagnosed with chronic kidney disease (CKD). This programme, presented by Dr Chris Steel from ITV’s This Morning, outlines what the kidneys do and the background to CKD. Most importantly, it covers what can be done in terms of both diet and lifestyle changes to prevent further damage to the kidneys and to reduce the associated risks of stroke and heart attack. A second DVD focuses on acute and end stage renal failure using the experiences of patients, carers, renal units and clinicians from across the UK to help patients gain a good understanding of the realities of living with Kidney Disease. The DVD offers practical help, support and guidance on how to overcome some of the challenges they may face. There are options to view the DVDs with subtitles in English and audio in English, Bengali, Gujurati, Urdu and Punjabi. To order DVDs, please visit http://www.kidneyresearchuk.org/dvdproject. This UK-first initiative has once again brought together and involved individual patients and patient groups as well as the UK’s major kidney charities and professional organisations. The project is supported by The Big Lottery Fund, Baxter Healthcare UK, Wyeth UK, Astellas Pharma Inc and Genzyme UK.
